Absolutely shocking experience at B & Q tonight (26.05.23) with the shift manager. On 13.05.2023 we bought a new lawn mower. Didn't appear very powerful the first use, on the second use it would not cut the grass, as there was not enough power to do so. Clearly a motor fault so we took it back to B & Q. The duty manager told my husband to phone the manufacturer as they needed to sort it out. When I tried to speak to the manager (Matt) he kept talking over me and said he wouldn't replace the mower due to the fact we didn't think it was powerful enough. I kept trying to explain that it want that it wasn't powerful enough, it was that it was faulty. I again tried to explain but he was dismissive and ignorant. All I wanted was an exchange for the same model and hopefully one that worked, but he continued to say that he wouldn't swap it because it wasn't powerful enough. If I felt the 1800w mower wasn't powerful enough I wouldn't have asked for a like for like exchange I would have asked for a refund. Long story short, it took a 45 minute phone call to customer services for the store to finally agree to a change. The general store staff...can't fault them. The managers customer service skills leave a lot to be desired. Leaving me highly unlikely to return! Managers shouldn't need to be reminded of trading laws, trying to send us to the manufacturer due to a fault. Our contract was with the store, not the manufacturer, therefore the store were responsible for replacing the faulty item!

Most of the time they sell what DIY bits you need and despite being a major supplier, their prices are actually sometimes cheaper. Recently, I was delighted when I picked up two Nest Protects for only £50 each, when they normally retail at over £100 per device. Very friendly and kind staff.
