Just by pure luck when we were on the way to the Beeleigh Abbey Gardens, we came across the remains of a nineteenth century Beeleigh water & Steam mill. They are open only by appointments. This historical mill is one of the most attractive and fascinating in East Anglia. Great guided tour with very knowledgeable volunteers and detailed history of the place available. Apparently, water mills have been recorded on this site since 1066! Steam came to the mill in 1845, when the Wentworth beam engine and elephant boiler were installed, which remained in excellent condition until today. One part of the mill and particular the weatherboard water mill, was completely destroyed by a fire in 1875. The steam mill remains as we can see today.
