We’ve stayed at Carey’s Manor lots of times since getting married there 14 years ago. Our latest visit was to celebrate our anniversary. This hotel used to be great but it’s definitely gone down hill since our last time in 2020. The rates have gone up a lot, our trip cost over £600 (it used to be £400 and included lunch, which it no longer does). Breakfast is now just a continental one with pastries and some fruit - you have to pay extra to have anything hot. Such a shame that this has been cut back so much as their breakfast used to be a great experience. It feels like they’ve stripped back on a lot to try and save money - amenities in the room gone, no newspapers or magazines, air con/heating controls in room gone so no adjustment, staff were over stretched meaning long waits for service. The staff used to be very personable and friendly, not anymore. At breakfast our server never returned to take an order so we gave up. At checkout the receptionist just took our money and didn’t even ask if we’d had a nice stay. Dinner at the Zen Garden restaurant was very good - excellent Thai food but pricey - £25 for a green curry and rice. The spa facilities were ok but they’re showing their age- the experience showers are caked in limescale so the jets don’t really work correctly. All in all, a disappointing stay at what was once a great and favourite hotel of ours. We wouldn’t return sadly.
