    Rooms: Not quite up to scratch. Decor in the room we had was too dark for a window with compromised light. Linen and towels were of a very good quality and room was clean. Food & drinks: Just a bit more quality from the food would then match the room price. Noteworthy details: Close to town centre is about the best plus for this place. Keep your door locked as cleaning staff happy to walk in without knocking.

    Stunning budget hotel in the heart of Harrogate. For circa £150 a night midweek off-season, you’ll be treated to a string of delights on arrival, including not one but two sachets of acrid Nescafé Original on the beat-up furniture in your stained-carpet room, 10% service charge for expensive average beers in an under stocked bar which you go to the bar for yourself, a Spa which you cannot access as a guest as it’s booked out 3 days ahead, and a helpful receptionist who can advise you to drink tap water from the bathroom, or pay a ‘tray charge’ for delivery of a jug, when you discover none is provided in your room, as it is a luxury item, beyond the reach of your thrifty accommodation choice. On checkout, you are not asked about your stay, but helpfully reminded that you have settled the bill in advance, just in case you weren’t already aware from the pressing intensity of credit card induced weltschmerz crushing your soul into the Yorkshire soil. Magisterial, Magnificent: Majestic. (The pool and sauna are good).
