Joined the London Walks 'How the city got rich' on Tuesday 23rd May. The walk was guided by David who was interesting, spoke clearly, was easy to understand and walked at a comfortable pace. We visited some places you would not usually see such as a roof top garden and part of the Roman ruins underneath a hairdressers! I experienced some transport issues when travelling to join the walk but was able to contact the company easily and David kept in touch until I arrived. Thoroughly recommend this walk.

An engaging and social walk. Our guide, David, was enthusiastic, friendly and a full bottle on Dickens. He even pointed out some other historical bits and pieces along the way which were very interesting. We particularly enjoyed the readings, which really painted us a picture of the places we were standing in. At the end of the walk, we saw an old English pub that Dickens would visit and David bought us a drink. We stayed for some time chatting with him about Dickens and all manner of tangentially related things. A very pleasant and satisfying end to a lovely walk.

I have been enjoying tours by London Walks for about 10 years. This most recent visit, I took five walks, largely in central and East London (where the very old history happened). The guides were spectacular, as always, and you can tell that this is a company that prides itself on its deep knowledge of history, engaging delivery, and ability to put non-locals at ease as they are sightseeing. The tour of Disastrous London up by Barbican illuminated why East London was so dodgy until relatively recently (think “Cheapside,” notorious prisons, plague and disease). The tour of the Old Jewish Quarter provided a multi-century history of the Jewish population in London and other immigrant groups. The tour of Hidden London was excellent, as other reviewers have mentioned—Simon was most entertaining and knowledgeable about ancient plagues, fires, royals, and scandals. The guided tour of Saint Paul’s covered the history of the site, its “old” vs wren designs, and many famous inhabitants of the building. (The visual aids—historical maps, portraits, etc—that the guides bring are always excellent, but especially for this tour.) And the final walk was in the Hampstead Village, where we covered both its historic inhabitants and the efforts over the past two centuries to save the heath from development. The nature walk on a beautiful day was the perfect end to my trip. All this to say, there are so many options with wonderful guides, and scheduling is so easy, I have no doubt that I will continue catching walks from this company whenever I visit London.

I would have liked to have given a review of this tour (Old Westminster) but Simon the tour guide took offence at me calling the office to make sure I was in the right place. Because he was so rude & aggressive we decided not to do the tour.

We went on the Hidden London walk today, 17/04/23, guided by Simon who was unbelievably knowledgeable! He made the walk so interesting and seemed genuinely passionate about London, the history and all he was telling us. We thoroughly enjoyed the walk and will certainly be booking more London walks in the future. Thank you Simon for a really fun, informative morning.

London Walks has been one of my favourite activities to do since moving here. The guides are incredibly generous with their knowledge. They are all so animated (often act out scenes, and incredibly literary). Today I did the Kensington walk, which turned out to be my favourite, mostly because of David. He was so kind. I hardly ever write reviews but I strongly recommend going on a London Walk with these guides!
