I had a three hour “master your makeup” lesson with Laura this week, and honestly cannot recommend it enough! I wanted to have a lesson to learn what styles of makeup and colours will flatter my face shape and colouring, and to help me choose some new products that suit me. The lesson took place in Laura’s home, in front of a window with good natural light. We went through my makeup bag and normal routine at the start, then during the session used a mix of some of my own products and Laura’s professional kit (mainly Laura’s because I wanted some advice on new products to buy that suit me). Everything was done on top of my normal moisturiser and sun cream, so (hopefully!) will have a similar effect when I try to do it at home. When discussing products to choose, we tried different types of foundation to see which base I prefer (matt vs more of a glow), and different colours that she recommended on eyes and lips. We didn’t try multiple blushers or bronzers but what she chose to use was perfect! For learning the techniques, Laura applied one side of my face, explaining where, how and why she was applying the product, and then I replicated it on the other side. I had so many questions as we went along, which Laura answered expertly. By the end of the session, I had practiced a day and evening look, both of which I love so much, and I felt amazing for the rest of the day wearing my makeup! Laura followed up by email with step-by step instructions of what we’d done on face charts and a detailed list of the products and colours we had used. She responded very quickly to my follow up query about one of the products. My only previous similar experience is having makeup done at department store counters, which is nothing like this lesson. I particularly like that Laura used a wide range of brands (prices when I went to buy some new bits for myself ranged from a less than £2 product on my brows and £7 concealer, to more expensive £40+ eye palate and bronzer) and never felt that she was recommending a brand or product that she wouldn’t use herself. She also offered to use more of my own products, so if you already have lots of nice makeup I don't think you would leave feeling like you needed to buy lots more - that was my own choice!
