Nice, lovely building and pleasant staff but the quality of the food doesn't quite justify the price

I have to say the reason we booked today was after an outstandingly meal on Valentine's day. We had told all our family about the meal and we were all looking forward to lunch today. Unfortunately today's experience has not lived up the previous meal and we have been left disappointed. When we came for Valentine's although there was a fixed menu we were also given the normal menu and the option to choose food from either. When I booked lunch today I checked that this again would be an option and advised it would be. However when we arrived today there was only the option of the set menu and the first disappointment of the day that the English chop house menu did not have a steak option was presented. I did ask if there was any other food options and was told a check would be made with the kitchen as the orders had only been made for the set menu options. To be fair the waitress came back to advise a fillet steak and chips could be prepared - an option my father in law made at an added expense of £30 on top of the fixed menu price. However as I don't eat chips I chose the beef dinner from the set menu. Unfortunately the meat was tough and the potatoes inedible. The service was good when it was table side but there were long periods of time when our wait staff were not around and we spent nearly 3.5hours having lunch which with small children was a rather lengthy period. As a large booking of 9 today we spent nearly £500 for lunch today and have been left feeling deflated and reluctant to eat at the chop house again in the future. When we arrived we had to move our own table to accomadate a high chair that wasn't there on arrival and table was set for incorrect number of people We ordered bread for the table which we were advised would be at extra cost and then we were charged for 3 not 2 on the bill No side plates or butter knives were brought with the bread No special mothers day appriciaton was noted When my mother in law ordered a filter coffee she was told would take a few minutes to turn machine on and did she just want an Americano as it's the same anyway. We were charged extra for a side salad for the kids starter as they didn't want anything off menu which when it came was just a bowl of rocket and water cress when asked for cucumber, tomato etc was brought one tomato and few bits of red onion Charged extra for ice cream for kids as they didn't want pudding off the menu. We were told "A pound a scoop! !" Which when you have spent over £450 I find to be quite rude. I try to be as fair as I can when leaving reviews, but in all honestly I feel very bitter about the service and quality of food we received today. I certainly would not return.

Food at Chophouse mediocre at best. For Marco Pierre White to put his name to this is disappointing to say the least seems he has Michelin Stars to his name! Ordered macaroni mushrooms with a poached egg + a warm brownie & ice-cream, both well below average, especially the brownie, which was dry, hard & not even warm-yuck! Service good though & friendly staff.
