Mei Quan Tai Chi in Clapham is really lovely. I started about 3 years ago, as a way to stay active, help keep movement in my shoulder due to injury, and wanted to meet a community of people that were friendly and welcoming! I found all this - more! Folks may have a pre-conceived notion of what Tai Chi is (and isn't) but perhaps what surprised me the most, was how I felt afterwards. Between the busy crazy pace of life, career, caring for kids etc., Tai Chi was a specific time for me - to breath, to relax and to unwind. Perhaps what really impressed me, was how my quality of sleep improved on Tai Chi days, though I appreciate not everyone is the same - but it has definitely had a positive impact on me. Matthew is an incredible teacher. He's very down to earth, patient, yet enthusiastic and truly has a passion for teaching and for the arts of Tai Chi and Qi Gong. As a beginner, it was his really wonderful teaching approach that I appreciated the most, and the people who are in this small but fun community. Everyone is really nice and welcoming!

I have been attending these classes for over 10 years. The classes are small enough to get personal attention while large enough to have a sense of community. Matthew is an excellent teacher and continually inspires me to learn more. It has been great for both my physical and mental health. I had no experience of Tai Chi prior to starting the classes and don't think I could have made a better choice for somewhere to learn . I would highly recommend the classes.

I would thoroughly recommend Tai Chi and this class in particular. It is a small class with various streams. The teaching varies between group work where the whole class works together on an exercise and work in your stream where you are given exercises that are appropriate to your level. When I started the plan was to get fit for few weeks, however the friendliness of the other students and the beauty of the form we were learning kept me coming back. For me having a time set aside where I do exercises that require me to think deeply about what I am doing both helps my physical and mental health - taking me away from the churn of work.
