My daughter has been attending Paxton academy since it opened nearly three years ago. The teaching started off good but it's steadily got worse and worse. We were made a number of promises by Johnette Barrett, the principal, including having longer school days, shorter holidays, a permanent building within 12-18 months, specialist teachers, high quality education, partnership working with local private schools and scholarship opportunities for our children. On all of these promises she has not kept one! My daughter has been left in a sub standard temporary shed on the edge of a Ruby field they can't even use during Playtimes. The temperatures reach rediculous levels in her class and children come home sick with heat exhaustion and bugs. There is not enough space for children to each lunch so they only get 20 minutes per class in the 'hall'. Staff turnover is extremely high and moral is very very low, which is impacting the children. Ofsted have also identified child safeguarding issues. Pupil behaviour has deteriorated and the teacher's can't control their classrooms. I know a number of teachers and parents personally and my child is very open with me about the conditions in the school. Many parents have also taken their children out of Paxton because of the poor conditions of teaching and resources. A planning application was only made in January of this year, two and a half years after the opening of the school, for the permanent site on London Road. This was denied, sighting many many issues with the location, design and inconsistent air quality reports provided by Paxton academy. It's now July and no appeal has been submitted, another promise that was made to us. I'm now searching for another school that will be able to take my daughter. This school has ruined my daughters primary school education and I look to Ms Barrett as the individual with sole responsibility for this. Please do not consider this an option for your children. In my opinion, the school is likely to be closed down within the next academic year.
