Obviously a church that is still being used for the purpose it was built for. So Many features in plain sight and hidden. Interesting bosses, wooden and stone. It's position on the hill above the lovely village of Kersey means it can be seen from afar.

St. Mary's is an impressive, well proportioned church with tall tower, sited atop the steep hill overlooking all of Kersey village. It's one of the most photographed & painted Suffolk churches, typically depicted together with the famous 'watersplash' (shallow ford), at the bottom of the hill. St. Mary's is one of the Suffolk wool churches, & actually quite conservative in its size, compared to some of the cathedral-esque structures, to be found elsewhere & quite nearby in the county. Also, despite the generous funding that local wool merchants contributed to its construction, no stained glass was used. Therefore, the interior of St. Mary's is not quite as impressive as the exterior architecture might suggest. Its high ground churchyard is packed with gravestones, some of them extremely aged...

One of my favourite suffolk churches situated in pretty unspoilt village which includes a ford on the main street.A peaceful church situated at the highest point in the village commanding a lovely view from the churchyard.When you go in the church,look up. ( in fact when you go in any church look up,) Suffolk has many angel roofs ,this one ,sadly has decapitated angels thanks to the reformation.Atmospheric feeling here,sit down and feel it wash over you.Cannot leave without mentioning the Bell Inn .After your church visit call in for a superb pub lunch.Been here at least 10 times and found it brilliant.Word of warning,have no breakfast if you have the homemade pies!,rather filling.

The town of Kersey is just a lovely town to visit. It’s supposedly one of the most beautiful towns of England and although I cannot compare I would agree it’s quite beautiful. It’s rather small so don’t expect many wandering streets. The church on top of the hill is very old and and oozes history. I love these kind of churches it’s rather beautiful. We just walked around it and enjoyed the view. As we were leaving we got to talk to some of the local children and their teacher. They were very sweet. As it turns out the school, of just about 30 children or so, is situated next to the church.

The so-called 'Wool Church', a pompous building on a hill dominates the undersized city, consisting of tiny dung houses; a kind of one-street city. Until the 50x it did not have electricity, water-supply, the population used a well located at the other end of the street. It is curious that the river crosses the main road of the city, a shallow place for fording (hence OxFORD)
