  I don’t expect to be injured during a workshop but unfortunately this has been the case with both the workshops I have undertaken with Take 3. I understand that sometimes learning involves being pushed outside of your comfort zone but I don’t think you should be pushed beyond your experience level. Both of the injuries occurred during the filming aspect of the workshop where I and my parter both felt our health and safety was secondary to obtaining ’better footage’. We didn’t feel listened to when we voiced concerns we could injure each other, and having already sustained an injury that morning in the same situation I think it’s really unacceptable that we didn’t feel heard. If you are injured on set during filming the production would be liable to ensure you are provided for. In this workshop we are pushed as if we are on set but there is no liability. I’m very lucky that when my hand/face was injured I didn’t have work lined up or I may have actually lost paid work because of a workshop. These workshops feel better suited to stunt performers than straight actors wanting to get a bit of experience.

  I want to preface this by saying that the choreographer and fight teacher AJ was extraordinary, and if this review was solely based on his teaching, I would give him five stars. Unfortunately the two day intensive katana course went severly downhill when Tyler the director got involved on day two. I think the main issue boils down to consent. The director (who is also the owner of the company) continually pushed my partner and I to make physical contact during the filmed fight scenes (something our fight teacher told us not to do) resulting in multiple injuries. Physical contact during a choreographed fight scene is not mandatory--if anything it should be advised against if you are not a professional stunt person. Both my partner and I repeatedly said we didn't want to make physical contact--but we were repeatedly ignored and pushed to do so. The director seemed more interested in getting a 'realistic' fight scene for the benefit of his own company than listening to what we were saying. For context, I have worked in this industry for ten years (with Emmy and Tony award winning directors + Oscar nominated DOPs) and have never experienced this kind of behaviour before. What the director was pushing us to do was not only unprofessional, but dangerous. Not only that, but the tone in which he communicated with us was condescending, verging on bullying. I was not surprised when a course member came up to me and said he'd made her partner cry on a previous course. Another member came up to me afterwards and said she didn't understand why the director was treating my partner and I with such passive aggression. What you also have to take into consideration is that you only have three takes, you are under a time constraint, you have an audience of other members watching you, and you want to get the fight right having paid almost £300 for the course--the director, whether consciously or not, makes his demands of you in a pressured environment where it's very hard to say no, the result of which left my partner and I feeling humiliated. My partner did not want me to touch her. The director made me do so anyway. I consequently hurt her. We both left feeling horrible. This is unacceptable. I think it's also worth noting that the final footage you receive is not like the footage on their social media. The videos are unedited, without music, shot in a different room, on a hand-held. I would whole-heartedly recommend AJ as a teacher, but sadly after the second day, I would never recommend this course.

  What an incredible experience, from start to finish!! Take 3 Action Academy were so professional from my first initial contact. I am an actor but had never done combat before at this level and was assured that it was possible for even a beginner to get great footage. I was not disappointed. Christian taught us fantastic techniques and choreography that looked slick and explosive on camera. Tyler is amazing! His attention to detail doesn't go unnoticed. He gave great tips on how to improve the scene from his outside eye. I think that is so important to have a skilled director give feedback on how improvements can be made. There was a superb energy upon entering and even better being amongst passionate professionals. Look forward to trying it next time with some weapons! I will definitely be back!! Thanks team, ya'll awesome!! <3

  One of the best experiences I've had in a long time. If your someone that enjoys challenges, meeting new people, gaining new skill sets, likes being pushed to limits and genuinely a thrill seeker, then this is the place for you. Their dedication to creating excellence in you is incredible and patience for everyone of all levels is so commendable. Funny enough, I took my boyfriend here on a date! Such a cool date idea and I enjoyed it so much that I went back and did the intensive 3 day course. Saving up to go back a do more training in different weapons. Just your average London love story. Moral: BOOK AND GO!!!

  Such a fun and challenging experience, I would highly recommend these courses. Everyone who enters the room is so invested and wants you to do the best you can. The communication leading up to the course is impressively efficient, and when you get there the team make you feel comfortable from start to finish. They send the footage out so quickly, and the camera work is great! I really admire Take 3 as an organization and will definitely be booking further courses throughout the year.

  I had an awesome time at Take 3 Action Academy. From the management to the the Instructors, everyone made you feel welcome regardless of the participants previous experience. I believe I was the only left handed person in the group and one of my scenes were tailor-made to my natural stance which was awesome as it showed the instructors attention to detail ensuring everyone was comfortable. It was great having Tyler drop in and advising when people were practicing the choreography aswell as the Q and A session we had with someone involved in the stunts industry. All around experience was 10/10 and a few days after the course I booked myself onto the Unarmed Combat Intensive. Roll on June!

  I couldn't recommend Take 3 and their courses enough! Take 3 provide quality, in-depth training with outstanding industry knowledge and connections. I started as a complete beginner and after taking part in two 3 day, screen combat intensives with Take 3 I have grown in confident and skill, to the point I now can learn and perform fight choreography, delivering a believable and exciting performance with multiple weapons. Don't head into this training (especially on the intensive courses) thinking it'll be easy or an experience day! The courses are designed with the industry in mind and will push you both mentally and physically, you will be sore and tired come day 3! but with the supportive instructors, the Director: Tyler and your fellow trainees you'll not only walk away feeling amazing, with some great new friends but also with some epic footage and an APC qualification in the weapons you've worked with. If you're interested in screen combat and willing to get stuck in, these courses are for you! and Take 3 are always changing so you can keep going back and learn new weapons and skills. My 3rd and 4th courses are already booked and I can't wait!
