When I decided to study to become a clinical Trichologist I looked at several providers but chose the IOT because it is the foremost professional association for Trichology. I was unsure how studying while running my own business would work but undertook the foundation course and quickly realised that the modules are clearly laid out, and I just needed to set aside some structured study time, The tutors were also all available to offer support & guidance when needed. Nearly 2 years in and I am now in my final year. I have learnt so much from the tutors during this time, and really value the in-clinic sessions which now take place in a beautiful setting on London’s prestigious Harley St. The time has flown and I am so pleased I took the decision to study with the IOT and look forward to becoming a member.and going on to help people suffering with hair & scalp disorders.

Tricholgists are all things head and scalp and in my experience have more detailed knowledge about hair than a GP or dermatologist. My consultation last month was thorough. I was asked about family history, diet, when I first noticed my condition and whether there were any triggers around that time. My hair and scalp were examined under a microscope and I was diagnosed. A blood test was ordered from my GP. Bloods for general health differ to hair health I discovered, so whilst a GP may say bloods are ok, a trichologist may find differently for optimal hair health. Analysis of my bloods was included in the consultation fee and a deficiency identified. I feel I was given sound diagnosis, treatment and advice and am looking forward to my condition improving.

Initial impression, I was not impressed as I arrived early, and was made to feel like a nuisance. However When speaking to the trichologist about my specific concern I was impressed and relieved as I have been suffering with this condition for a while and it appeared from nowhere so I was feeling very hopeful after my consultation. I was given some advice during the appointment and when I left I received further advice on what to do, unfortunately I felt a bit let down as there were mainly things on there that I had mentioned I was already doing during the consultation that had not helped. I was also told I’d hear back on a sample that would be sent and that I would receive some additional guidance notes but haven’t heard a thing since. I bought the supplements recommended but nothing has worked and it’s been about a year now. I followed up once since then but nothing more came back other than I’d hear back however still nothing, which is a shame. I would have been happy to continue going to keep working to find a solution to my issue but clearly they aren’t that bothered. I was surprised nobody had reached out to book a follow up appointment or even seem more interested when I had reached out on the additional bits I was waiting to hear back on.
