22/9/21 - Beware of Staymor Guest House in York City. Judgemental. Ignorant. Small-minded. These are the words I would sadly use to describe the two people i spoke to when clarifying a booking I had made with them for one night through booking.com On the last night of a lovely 2-week honeymoon road trip across Scotland, my husband and I decided to have one more night in York before we returned back home. We left Edinburgh at 2pm and arrived in York at 6pm. Feeling the need to have a bite to eat, we went to The Windmill Pub which is a great place to grab some food and drink at that time. We also searched for hotels and wanted one which had parking space. The Staymor in York City came up as an option with parking for £4. We booked it and then called to ask where we could park. We spoke to a gentleman but couldn’t hear his name properly due to the music in pub. He told us there was no parking as all spaces were reserved and outside there was permit parking. We discussed cancelling it. After discussing our options, my husband and I thought we could still stay there and maybe get reservation for the following day allowing us to see York. We called again and spoke to a lady who said she was a work colleague to the man I’d spoken to a few minutes earlier and asked if we could reserve space for next day. It wasn’t really possible but I told her we would be staying and would leave the pub shortly. She said take care. A couple of minutes later, Cherie from booking.com called and said Staymor cancelled the booking as they did not want ‘drunks’ staying with them. I was so shocked and disgusted by the owners of Staymor Guest House in York. Since when is having a bite to eat and a drink after a long journey classified as someone being drunk??!!! I told booking.com that we had booked multiple hotels and B&Bs during our honeymoon road trip through them and this behaviour by Staymor Guest House owners have shown total disrespect and are making judgements without any facts. Appalling. Cherie from booking.com was very apologetic. I her that I and my husband were disgusted and found Staymor’s comments appalling. After travelling the globe for almost 30 years and staying in various hotels and B&Bs/Guest Houses, I have never come across such small-minded and judgemental people as the owners of Staymor Guest House in York City.
