This is a retrospective review from 9 years ago to show our appreciation for the professional work and durability of the conversions. Like others we had three quotes and chose Up & Under because of the reasonable price as well as Jamie and his honest can do attitude. He worked through all the options suggesting improvements and multiple recommendations that we hadn't considered. We also visited some previous conversions and were convinced by similarly happy customers. The basement conversion consisted of: underpinning to increase the head height (blessed by an independent surveyor); opening up the ground floor staircase and moving the entrance to the basement (resulting in more space in our kitchen); adding a utility room under the staircase (washing machine, tumble dryer & sink); a new shower room with toilet & basin; and installation of a new front window/fire escape. Ultimately, resulting in an amazing space at a very reasonable price. As well as the conversion Up & Under also accommodated multiple improvements such as: rewiring our ground floor; installing mains wired fire alarms & smoke detectors on every floor; as well as replacing all our radiators and associated ground floor heating pipe work. I can't recommend Up & Under enough and a huge thanks goes to Jamie and Darren who managed the project from start to end. By the way, the after pictures were taken recently, as sadly we are moving on from this lovely home. However, the new family are already ecstatic with this space and was almost certainly part of why we had so many interested buyers. Finally, with regards to another review, we had absolutely no problem with getting the Building Control certificate and I remember the building control officer being very complimentary about the work,, as well as, the thought and attention to detail that went into making this both a great conversion but also a safe home.

I found Up and Under after a recommendation from a friend of a friend. I received a total of 4 quotes for the conversion of 45m2 Victorian cellar in Stockport from various cellar conversion/structural waterproofing companies including Trace, PRS and BAR preservation. The surveys by them all were basically the same but the quote from Jamie at Up and Under was by far the best price and a no nonsense quote. This was to do everything including building regs, plumbing and electrics - the Trace quote was over double this. Up and Under used all the insulation, fibreboard and specialist waterproofing membrane (they used Oldroyd) itemised on the more pricey quotes. The team obviously knew what they are doing and are a very hard working bunch of guys with attention to detail. They were very friendly and polite and the foreman Darren always responded to any questions I had. The whole job took just under 3 months and I was very impressed by the job and so was the building inspector! Would highly recommend. Thanks to Darren and the guys

We invited Up and Under to quote to convert our damp basement into a useable living space. Their quote wasn't the cheapest, nor the most expensive from the quotes but it was certainly the most detailed and comprehensive quote we recieved. The work had a slight delay to its completion and this was due to unforeseen circumstances through an old 'maids tap' which we thought was dry and it turned out it wasn't. The builders of Up and Under where fantastic, working through the very hot summer months, in difficult circumstances digging out the basement by hand. The foreman, Darren, was simply brilliant! Always available to answer questions or explain what is going to happen. If you are after a basement conversion, this company have been absolutely fantastic with us and I would highly recommend getting a quote from them.

I had the Up&Under team in to do my basement. The work was exactly as specified, and my wife and children are over the moon with our extra space. They delivered all on time. Were great guys to have around, and talked us through every stage of the process, and dealt with the building inspector from Manchester City Council. If we ever move, we will use these Guys again.

Be careful of this company. We had a house under offer in Didsbury where they completed a basement conversion. The vendor had paid them £20,000 to complete the conversion, however they didn't get building regs sign off. We were a bit wary of this and wanted to speak to the company to ensure that the work was up to scratch. We, as well as the vendor and vendor's estate agent, called them for a period of 3 weeks and left messages - no response. We spoke to another basement conversion provider, Trace Basements. They said a basement conversion is very intricate and if the system fails, the whole system could flood and you'd have to completely redo it. They couldn't tell the quality of work without ripping the system out and starting again. Plus, they'd never even heard of Up and Under (which was unsurprising). We therefore pulled out of the sale (after already spending £2,000 on fees). This was back in July and the house is still on the market after being reduced. Basically, get building regulations and use a company that doesn't take your money and run.
