Before being diagnosed with breast cancer I had no idea that a community of survivors could be so important to my recovery. I was welcomed warmly into the group and my nervousness about sharing my story quickly disappeared. Initially I needed to talk through my surgery options with someone who had shared experience. Later I received practical and emotional support throughout my treatment. We are all different and no two individual’s journey are the same but the support I gained helped me through some of the biggest challenges of my life. Another surprise was how much we laughed and enjoyed each other’s company. The two Summer events shown below, taken towards the end of my treatment are such cherished memories. Community, companionship and compassion are the positive Cs that I gained from this wonderful group. .

Very friendly, informal support group. I first attended over 5 years and found it reassuring to see survivors diagnosed over 10 years ago. There are two locations now, one in Christ Church in Winchester and another in Chandlers Ford in Eastleigh. There are about 15 people at each meeting. I'm still attending the monthly meetings as it's great now to support new survivors. There was a river cruise along the River Hamble and a visit to Longstock Water Gardens organised this year. Great fun!
